This is a section from a book called Visual Research – An introduction to Research Methodologies in Graphic Design by Ian Noble and Russell Bestley about tactility and usability. I thought this section particularly applied to me as I have been looking at creating work which is tactile and gets people involved.  It discusses the importance of the texture of designed objects and that the message is often thought of as a priority rather than the medium that is used. It does point out however that Visual Communication is about the layout of a page and not what it is made of however I think this helps dramatically when delivering a message.
